Stocking Stuffer Surprises – A Cure For Children Of All Ages
Memories of Vacation stockings deliver joy to all people. Small surprises left from Santa were excellent pleasure to get as children, and as adults it’s even more enjoyable to get tiny paintings and observe our children’s faces light up with smiles.
In my childhood, our best stocking stuffers were generally full of candy, a rare commodity throughout my younger years. When I was five, my head turned toward jewelry, using a specific ring near the very top of my want list. I had been feeling a little cheated after reviewing each of the Vacation dawn loot from Santa. “Certainly there must be a ring someplace,” I believed.
With a twinkle in her eye, my Mother very softly requested, “Have you looked in your stocking?” And there it was, at the very bottom, under all that chocolate, a little, velvet box containing the small heart-shaped birthstone, the one I’d hoped for. I wore it in my ring finger, then for several decades as a pinky ring, and on a gold chain for a pendant. These days, it succeeds in my childhood jewelry box along with other exceptional memories.
But as a parent, I like seeing my children carefully glance in their stockings on Vacation morning, before they’ve opened one gift. Yes, they locate their customary sweet treats, and a couple of extraordinary little surprises.
The year we had been traveling at vacation time and with no customary cosmetic stockings we improvised and only hung up our everyday socks. It wouldn’t happen to be Vacation with no stockings!
